Be different and be happy!

I am a Life Coach and Mentor and I also specialise in helping people with marks, scars and facial differences. I hope I can inspire others to be happy with themselves.

This is my website: it includes a collection of inspirational stories about people living happily and successfully with their birthmarks and scars.

As a child, I would have been ecstatic if I had been able to meet others with birthmarks. It would have given me great encouragement and confidence. I went through a phase of asking for plastic surgery but now I am glad my parents talked me out of it. I have a facial port wine stain and have had a happy life, - a little teasing when I was young but nothing terrible - without any counselling.

In 2003, I saw a documentary which changed my life. I was sad to learn that there are so many people with marks and scars who are unhappy. I had always been interested in helping people and, in particular, in confidence building, so I decided to to become a mentor and try to help others gain confidence and learn to live happily with their differences.

I was lucky to have loving parents and I never gave my mark much thought until I was teased, aged 8. Then I wanted to hide my mark and I used camouflage make-up for years. It seems strange to look back now that I don’t wear make-up, but when I went to the office I always covered it with make-up, as I thought that would be more 'professional!!'

Now I realise that most people are perfectly accepting and there is no need to feel paranoid. Many people have 'irrational beliefs' about their scars and marks. However, we are humans and scars and marks are only natural and we should not have to hide them. I threw my make-up away in April 2004 and feel really good about that! Freedom!
